Utah Concealed Carry Permit — For Residents & Non-Residents

Earn a Utah Concealed Firearms Permit (CFP) — honored across a long list of states — from a Utah CFP-certified instructor at a private range near St. George and Cedar City. Utah issues this permit to residents and non-residents alike, which is exactly why shooters from all over the country certify here.

// Why so many people choose Utah

One permit, recognized almost everywhere.

The Utah Concealed Firearms Permit is popular with residents and non-residents for the same reason: reciprocity. Through reciprocity agreements, a Utah CFP is honored across a long list of states — often more than a home-state permit alone — making it one of the most portable credentials a concealed carrier can hold. Utah residents get full in-state coverage plus that reciprocity list. Non-residents get a permit valid while traveling or living in states where their own state’s permit isn’t recognized, or where they don’t hold a permit at all — Utah is one of the few states that issues its CFP to qualified applicants regardless of where they live.

Our class covers everything the state requires — Utah firearms law, safe handling and storage, and use-of-force fundamentals — taught by an instructor certified to teach the Utah CFP. You leave with the course-completion certificate needed for your permit application, whether Utah is home or not.

// How it works — residents & non-residents

Same class, two simple paths after.

The CFP course itself does not require live fire, so there’s no firearm or ammunition to bring — just show up. Utah residents typically get fingerprinted locally and submit their BCI application with their certificate and a passport photo. Non-residents follow the same class, then usually get fingerprinted through a livescan provider or fingerprint card near home and mail the completed application package to Utah BCI — you do not need to return to Utah to finish your permit.

We walk through the BCI paperwork in class either way, so you know exactly what to file, where to send it, and what to expect on timing. Want to build real defensive skill on top of the permit? Add a defensive pistol class or a membership and put rounds downrange on 320 private acres.

Utah CFP FAQ.

Who can take the Utah Concealed Carry Permit class?

Utah residents and non-residents alike. Many out-of-state shooters get a Utah permit specifically because it is recognized across a long list of states. The standard permit is for adults 21 and up; Utah also offers a provisional permit for ages 18–20. We confirm your eligibility when you register.

Can I get a Utah CFP if I don’t live in Utah?

Yes. Utah is one of the few states that issues its concealed firearms permit to qualified non-residents, not just people who live here — it’s a major reason out-of-state shooters take this class specifically.

Do non-residents have to come back to Utah to finish the permit?

No. After class, non-residents typically get fingerprinted through a livescan provider or fingerprint card near home and mail the completed application to Utah BCI. You only need to be in Utah for the class itself.

Does a Utah permit work in other states?

Yes — the Utah Concealed Firearms Permit is honored in a wide range of states through reciprocity, which is exactly why it is one of the most popular permits in the country for residents and non-residents. Reciprocity changes over time, so we point you to the current state list during class.

What does the class cover?

Utah firearms law, safe handling and storage, use-of-force basics, and everything the state requires for the CFP. You leave with the certified course completion needed to submit your BCI application.

Do I need to bring a firearm?

No live-fire is required for the Utah CFP course itself, so you do not need to bring a firearm or ammunition. If you want range time to build real skill, pair the permit class with a defensive pistol session.

How do I actually get the permit after class?

You submit the Utah BCI application with your course-completion certificate, a passport photo, and fingerprints. Residents typically handle this locally; non-residents mail the package in after getting fingerprinted near home. We walk through each step so the paperwork is not a mystery.

How long is the class and how many people are in it?

The CFP course runs about a day, taught in small groups (max 12) by a Utah CFP-certified instructor, on the range at FOB Gunslinger near Cedar City.
