Brave Lizard is a small, deliberate outfit. Our core team consists of certified instructors and Chief Range Safety Officers who have been drawn from the military, law enforcement, public safety, and experienced civilians, all of whom have spent a lifetime focused on firearms handling and safety.

John McGloughlin
Owner / Instructor
johnmac owns Brave Lizard Tactical. He’s an entrepreneur with over three decades in the private sector, including 25 years as a cyber operator. He’s a certified sworn member of the Iron County Sheriff’s Volunteer Posse, TECC-trained and CPR-certified. He holds several firearms instructor certifications including Brave Lizard Pistol, Carbine and Precision Rifle; NRA Pistol, Rifle, and Protection Inside/Outside the Home; Frogman Tactical Pistol Instructor; Utah DPS CFP Instructor; FFL RP; and USCCA and NRA Chief Range Safety Officer. John is also an FAA certified Part 107 Remote pilot and a certified NIST UAS Proctor.
Sam Burgett
Board Advisor / Instructor
USN CPO (Ret.) with 20 years in the Navy and Marine Corps. He began as a Navy Gunner’s Mate, moved into Navy diving, and attached to Naval Special Warfare Groups 1 and 2, deploying with SEAL Teams and Marine Reconnaissance Battalions. On the Brave Lizard team he holds all RSO, instructor and tactical qualifications in pistol, carbine and precision long-range rifle, plus NRA Pistol and Carbine certifications.
Kyle K
Board Advisor / Instructor
A seasoned tactical training professional whose career is built on military service and years supporting government partners in nonpermissive environments. He began in the Marine Corps infantry, serving in combat and leading Marines as a Sergeant. His approach is disciplined, practical, and focused on real-world application — small-unit leadership, threat assessment, and operational readiness.

What certifications do the instructors hold?
The team holds many nationally recognized instructor certifications, including NRA Pistol, NRA Rifle, NRA Inside/Outside The Home, BLT Pistol, BLT Precision Rifle, BLT Carbine Rifle, Frogman Tactical Pistol, Utah DPS CFP, USCCA RSO, and NRA Chief Range Safety Officer. The team members are also certified in TCCC/TECC for trauma care and CPR.
Do the instructors have real-world experience?
Yes. The instructors have decades of experience in various tactical fields, including the military, law enforcement, public safety, and lifelong firearms handling and safety. The core instructor team also continuously trains and practices with other instructors and high-level professionals and certifies with nationally recognized certification authorities to bring the newest TTP to their students.
Will I get individual attention?
Yes. Class sizes are deliberately kept small, so individual coaching is the default rather than a luxury. Instructors meet you at your level and scale from there.
